The Waterfront - main facts.

The first phase of The Waterfront's Development  was Coordinated by Strategic Management Group comprising Cumbria County Council, Barrow in Furness Borough Council, Barrow Regeneration, NWDA. and Furness Enterprise.

That work resulted in new infrastructure being created.

Lifetime Anticipated Investment Value by the public sector  was originally forecast to be £60m.

Key elements of the development plan are:

The Waterfront has benefitted from European Regional Development Fund grants worth £8,472,455 towards over £20m of investment.

 

  • Business Park - of 60 acres, 23 hectares as the core job creating part of The Waterfront. Business Park.Phase one is ready now so companies can acquire plots and undertake development
  • Marina Village for up to 600 homes -The Lead developer to deliver all leisure, homes, shopping and site servicing is Storey of Carlisle. Barrow Borough Council  are  leading on  making the site suitable for this type of investment.
  • Marina 400 berths - located adjacent to the town quayside could be devloped in association withthe Marina Village
  • Boat Lift or short canal - costing several £m will give marina access for up to six boats simultaneously, design is progressing along with HRO Harbour Revision Orders.
  • Water Sports Centre - will involve a Development of around 20,000sq feet, Cavendish Dock, multi use support powerboating, leisure sailing, training.
  • Nature Reserve - will be Delivered by Cumbria County Council .

Recently The European Commission of Auditors has visited the Waterfront site to examine it as a potential source of best practice in devlivering regeneration of parts of the EU.
